SpongeCounter

In one of 3'000–5'000 operations a medical tool gets lost inside the patient's body. In 80 percent of these cases, the missing object is a surgical sponge. That is why the sponges are counted before and after each operation. SpongeCounter solves this problem by automatically counting all Sponges that are put inside it. Fluorescent plastic markers, which are melted into each Sponge, are recognized by infrared radiation.
